Skiers of different levels learning to ski on a snow-covered slope

Understanding your ski level is the first step to making the most of the mountains and progressing safely. At ESI deux Alpes, we've designed a clear system that's suitable for all ages, from the youngest beginner to the most experienced skier. Our friendly teaching approach aims to support each skier according to his or her ability, with small groups and instructors who are passionate about listening.

Whether you're a parent looking for a suitable lesson for your child or an adult looking to improve your technique, ESI offers a full range of ski levels. Unlike other schools, we prefer to teach in small, friendly groups, which maximises individual practice time.

Children's Ski Levels at ESI

Classes for younger skiers

For children aged 4 and over, ESI offers classes specially designed for their needs. The Snow Garden welcomes toddlers with fun activities that awaken their desire to slide while reassuring their parents. Gradually, they move on to the different Mouse levels, where they learn to master the basics of downhill skiing in a safe environment.

From the age of 6, it's all about Cristal levels, from Cristal International to Cristal de Diament.

Our experienced instructors use teaching methods adapted to each age and learning pace, encouraging self-confidence. Each child progresses at his or her own pace, thanks to personalised supervision that rewards success with symbolic medals.

Medals and awards for children

At the ESI, we attach great importance to motivating young skiers through a system of medals and rewards adapted to their progress. Each child receives tangible recognition for his or her efforts and progress on the slopes. These awards are not just symbolic: they encourage self-confidence and the pleasure of learning, which are essential for successful learning.

Unlike the sometimes rigid systems of other schools, our approach places the emphasis on caring and on each child's own pace. The medals are awarded for concrete stages in skiing, such as mastering turns or being able to ski down a blue run in complete safety. They are validated over the course of the week and not just a test on the last day, which makes you want to continue to progress with enthusiasm.

Case in point: Snow Garden

Le Jardin des neiges is the emblem of our pedagogy dedicated to toddlers from the age of 4. This is where the discovery of skiing begins in a fun and reassuring environment. Children learn through play, develop their balance and learn their first technical moves under the careful supervision of specialist instructors.

This club is often compared to similar facilities offered by our competitors, but it stands out for its small groups guaranteeing personalised attention. The success of Le Jardin des Neiges can also be measured by the smiles on the faces of the children, who come back year after year with even greater enthusiasm.

Statistics: average starting age for children's courses at ESI

On average, our students start learning to ski at the age of 4, an ideal age for learning the basics while having fun. This figure reflects our experience in the field and our teaching expertise adapted to the specific needs of young skiers.

However, it's never too late to start! We also welcome older children with lessons adapted to their current level so that they can catch up quickly in a safe environment.

Progression criteria for experienced skiers

For experienced skiers, the ski level is the mastery of advanced techniques and the ability to adapt to different terrain and conditions. At ESI St Christophe, progression is based on precise criteria such as fluidity in turns, speed control and finesse in transitions between different slopes.

Our instructors also assess the skier's ease in complex situations such as off-piste descents or descents in variable snow conditions. The ability to anticipate and manage balance is essential to progress to the next level. This personalised approach guarantees safe progress adapted to each skier's profile.

Concrete example: ESI medals

ESI has developed an exclusive medal system that rewards the progress of adult and teenage skiers. Unlike the more general models offered by other schools, our system rewards not only technical skills but also attitude in the mountains, such as respect for safety rules.

Les Cristaux corresponds to specific objectives achieved in practical tests. This scheme motivates students to give their best while creating a friendly dynamic within the groups.

Please note that medals are included in children's group classes and cost €5 for those wishing to obtain a medal in an adult or private class.

Statistics: number of adults enrolled in ski lessons at ESI

Every year, ESI St Christophe welcomes more than 1,200 adults to its group and private lessons, proof of the trust placed in our teaching methods. This number also reflects the diversity of levels catered for, from beginners putting on their first skis to experienced skiers looking to perfect their technique.

Our courses are designed to cater for this wide variety, with professional supervision that always puts the emphasis on fun and safety on the slopes.
